Besondere Probleme soll die Gulf Bank KSC in Kuwait haben. Sie hat nach Angaben Verluste in Höhe von 746 Mill. $ erzielt, weil Kunden, die mit Derivaten spekuliert hatten, ihre Verpflichtungen nicht mehr erfüllen konnten. Die Gulf Bank wird jetzt von der Zentralbank Kuwaits gestützt, die die Einlagen garantiert. Die Aktien wurden vom Handel ausgesetzt.
Eine Petitesse am Rande: Bereits am Donnerstag hatten dutzende Händler der Kuwait Stock Exchange vor der Börse demonstriert und von der Regierung mehr Unterstützung für die Finanzindustrie gefordert.
