Why Things are Finally Looking Up for Ford in South America

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) said this past week that it lost $185 million in South America in the second quarter, on a pre-tax basis.

That sounds grim, but it's actually an improvement: A year ago, Ford lost $265 million in the region, on its way to a $1.1 billion loss for the full year. 

That followed an $832 million loss in South America in 2015, and a $1.16 billion loss in the region in 2014. In fact, Ford hasn't turned a full-year profit in South America since 2012, when it earned $213 million before taxes.
