Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A) (NYSE: BRK.B) is a renowned conglomerate that has delivered impressive capital growth over multiple decades, thanks to Warren Buffett's exceptional skill in finding and investing in undervalued businesses. Many investors look to Berkshire Hathaway's stock portfolio as a top source of ideas for long-term capital growth.

One of the fairly recent additions to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio that intrigued me was Ally Financial (NYSE: ALLY), the world's leading digital-only bank and a top provider of auto insurance and financing. At first glance, Ally didn't seem to match the typical profile of a Warren Buffett stock, based on a superficial assessment of its financials, dividend policy, and competitive position.
