Social Security has plenty of money in reserves to pay out current benefits, but this isn't expected to last. In fact, the most recent estimates predict that Social Security will run out of money in 2034.

Most of the solutions that have been proposed involve just two types of fixes -- benefit reductions or tax increases. Since nobody can seem to agree on the right combination of those, maybe it's time to start thinking outside the box about ways to make Social Security viable for the long run.
