Dow Jones News: IBM Appoints New CEO; Visa Comes Up Short
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) was plunging Friday morning, down 1.54% at 11:40 a.m. EST. The coronavirus outbreak in China is showing no signs of slowing down, and investors are beginning to worry that global economic growth could take a serious hit.
IBM (NYSE: IBM) was by far the best performing stock in the Dow, up considerably after the company announced a major leadership change. Meanwhile, shares of Visa (NYSE: V) were down following a quarterly report that fell short of expectations.
On Thursday, the tech giant announced that its president, CEO, and chairwoman, Virginia Rometty, was stepping down after 8 years at the helm, effective April 6. Rometty will continue as executive chairwoman through the end of 2020, at which time she will retire from the company.
