Friday turned out to be a fairly quiet day on Wall Street, with pressure in the middle of the day giving way to more enthusiasm near the close. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) just barely poked into positive territory, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) and S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) mounted more impressive gains of about a half-percent.
