Thursday was a bad day for the stock market, as investors had a delayed reaction to the Federal Reserve's Wednesday decision to increase interest rates. In combination with other economic data, market participants grew more pessimistic about the economy's ability to withstand pressures that could send it into recession. That caused big losses for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC).
