What Happened in the Stock Market Today

Stocks rose strongly on Friday to close the market's sixth straight week of gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) and the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) both added more than half a percent to post record highs.

Financials led the way today, and the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSEMKT: XLF) ended with a 1.2% gain. Industrials also rose; the Industrial Select SPDR ETF (NYSEMKT: XLI) closed up 1.1%.
