Why Shares of General Motors Are Rising Today

Shares of General Motors (NYSE: GM) were rising on Tuesday morning after the Detroit auto giant released third-quarter earnings results that beat Wall Street's estimates despite a strike that idled GM's U.S. factories in September.

As of 10:30 a.m. EDT, GM's shares were up about 5% from Monday's closing price.

Analysts and investors had trimmed their expectations for GM's third-quarter revenue and profit after the United Auto Workers labor union began a nationwide strike against GM in mid-September.
