Bernin, France, February 23, 2012 — Soitec (Euronext), a world leader in generating and manufacturing revolutionary semiconductor materials for the electronic and energy industries, announced today that its concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) solar technology has been incorporated by top-ranking developers who were among the candidates to the recent call for tenders launched by the French Energy Regulatory Commission[1]. The dossiers submitted amounted to 115 MW, 72 MW of which is being produced solely through CPV systems.
The developers chose Soitec’s CPV technology due to its groundbreaking innovative qualities; it currently provides module energy efficiency of 30%. Moreover, Soitec’s CPV technology has been incorporated by major international companies and organizations, most notably Chevron, one of the world's leading integrated energy companies, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), one of the major electricity providers in California, and the South African Ministry of Energy.

[1] The call for tenders launched by the French Regulatory Energy Commission concerns the construction and subsequent running of plants for producing electricity from solar energy, having a power of greater than 250 kWc.
[2] The scheme to promote renewable energies in France aims to raise the proportion of renewable energies in the country’s overall energy consumption to at least 23% by 2020, by increasing the annual production of renewable energy by 20 million-ton equivalents of petroleum (MTEP). The objective concerning the generation of electricity from solar energy has been set in the long-term investment program for electricity production, with a target of 5400 MW by 2020.
