Rekordgewinn
Japanische Telekom Aktie
Japanese telecom group KDDI is expected to report another record profit for the nine months ending on Dec. 31, due to subscription growth and rising data revenue.
Group operating profit likely rose 9% on the year to about 580 billion yen ($4.92 billion), hitting a new high for a second straight year, with sales climbing 4% to about 3.3 trillion yen.
Discounts for customers who bundle fixed-line and wireless services helped KDDI increase the number of mobile subscribers. Smartphone-driven growth in data revenue offset falling income from voice calls, lifting the average revenue per user. The popularity of Apple's new iPhone 6 helped increase device sales.
KDDI appears to be alone among Japan's three leading mobile carriers in experiencing operating profit growth in the April-December period. NTT Docomo and SoftBank are expected to report losses.
KDDI is likely to keep its full-year profit estimate unchanged when it announces its 9-month results on Friday. The company expects operating profit to rise 10% to 730 billion yen. It will be watching to see how Docomo's upcoming discounts on bundled services play out during the competitive spring season.
