Halloween is still six weeks away, but that didn't stock the stock market from giving investors a big scare this week. Further weakness on Friday sent the major market indexes to steep declines from where they were this time last week, including a 4% fall for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI), a nearly 5% drop for the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), and a 5.5% hit to the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC). Daily moves were less extreme, but all three indexes still lost further ground.
