Better Buy: Costco vs. Nordstrom
Costco (NASDAQ: COST) and Nordstrom (NYSE: JWN) are two retailers that had different performances this year. Costco benefited from staying open and from shoppers stocking up on groceries and essentials during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nordstrom saw sales plummet when non-essential businesses had to close due to restrictions around the virus, but its e-commerce business saw rapid growth.
Both consumer discretionary companies are known for their customer service and have taken steps to position their business in the current environment, but which retailer is the better investment?
