Cigna and Humana Join Aetna in Waiving COVID-19 Patients' Cost-Sharing Payments


Heath insurers Cigna (NYSE: CI) and Humana (NYSE: HUM) are waiving co-payments and cost-sharing for patients with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. CVS Health's (NYSE: CVS) Aetna insurance group announced a similar policy last week.

"It's a lot of money they're waiving," President Donald Trump said of Cigna and Humana at a press conference on Sunday where the announcement was made. Apparently, it doesn't pay to be first because there was no mention of Aetna during the press conference.

The companies will also not require co-pays for COVID-19 testing. That was made mandatory by the $2 trillion CARES Act passed last week, but many insurers had already announced they were waiving costs for testing.
