For instance, the benchmark S&P 500 has delivered an average annual total return, including dividends, of greater than 10% since the beginning of 1980. But in recent years, it's been cryptocurrencies that've run circles around equities. Young investors, in particular, have been drawn to the decentralized and unregulated nature of digital currencies, as well as the neck-breaking volatility that often comes with owning crypto.
