International Graphite secures prime Collie site for planned battery anode material manufacturing plant

HIGHLIGHTS

-         Preferred site selected in Collie for future battery anode material (BAM) plant

-         Lease term of up to 40 years to be negotiated on private land in the Coolangatta industrial estate.

-         Strategically located 5km north-east of the Collie town centre, all services available and metres from power transmission network

17 May 2023 - International Graphite Limited (ASX: IG6) (IG or the Company) has selected the preferred site for its proposed Collie Graphite BAM Facility in Western Australia.

The Company has signed an exclusive non-binding memorandum of understanding for an option agreement to negotiate a lease over approximately 20 hectares of privately owned land in the Coolangatta industrial precinct some 5km north-east of the Collie town centre.

The lease period would be 20 years with a further 20-year extension available. The option may be exercised at any time within a two year period. Full details of the commercial lease will be progressed during the option period.

The agreement follows the Company’s release last month of its scoping study for the Collie Graphite BAM Facility.[i]

IG6 Managing Director and CEO Andrew Worland said securing the Collie site was a significant milestone in the development of the proposed Collie Graphite BAM Facility.

"The land is cleared, well served by sealed roads and civil infrastructure, with ample space to accommodate our initial design and future expansion plans,” Mr Worland said.

“Most importantly, it is only metres from the existing power network which gives us the opportunity to purchase energy at the lowest possible transmission cost. “

Collie is at the heart of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) – Western Australia’s primary power generation system – which delivers electricity to metropolitan Perth and into the Mid West, South West and Kalgoorlie-Goldfields regions.

In addition to being within metres of the poles and wires network, the 20 hectare site has sufficient area to consider installation of a solar facility.

Energy sources into the SWIS are evolving as Western Australia’s renewable energy industries expand.

On 11 May 2023, the Western Australian Government announced it would install one of the world’s biggest batteries at Collie to be operational before the end of 2025. IG also has a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Zen Energy, led by climate change economist Professor Ross Garnaut, which is assessing the feasibility of building a 200MW, 600 to 800MWh battery at Collie.[ii]
