The Hartford Delivers a Mixed First-Quarter Report
The Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE: HIG) reported its first-quarter financial results Thursday after the close, and the numbers were a mixed bag -- the insurer's net income fell, but it did beat analysts' consensus estimate.
Net income was down 57% in the quarter to $268 million, with earnings per share at $0.74. Core earnings, which the company uses to gauge operating performance, was down 4% year over year to $485 million, or $1.34 per share, but beat estimates.
