The S&P 500 Is Up Over 14% Halfway Through 2024. History Says This Is How It Will Do the Rest of the Year


The higher the S&P 500 goes, the more inevitable it is for doubts and questions to arise about how long the bullishness can last. Investors may be wondering whether stocks have become overvalued, if there's a bubble forming, and -- more importantly -- whether it's time to get out of stocks altogether and move your money into something safer.

Below, I'll look at how the index has historically done after notching a strong performance at the halfway mark of the year, and whether investors should expect the rally to continue.

To put into perspective just how strong of a year 2024 has been, consider that this is just the fourth time in recent years that the index has been up by 14% after the first six months of the year. Here's how it has done in the previous three occurrences.
