The stock market tried to mount a comeback on Tuesday, but the effort largely ran out of gas by the end of the regular trading session. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) managed to hold onto at least modest gains. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) and the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) both suffered intraday reversals that pointed to a lack of comfort with the current situation on Wall Street.
