Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is gearing up to test online alternatives to the traditional car-buying process via one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms. 

Ford and Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) said last week that they have signed a deal to explore collaboration in several high-tech areas, including ways in which technology could be used to change the auto-sales process.
