Why Piedmont Lithium, Lithium Americas, and SunPower Stock Were All Up After the Presidential Debate


Well, the first presidential debate of 2020 is in the history books now (and thank goodness for that). Today, in the aftermath, stocks are beginning to react to what little new we learned from the two major candidates last night.

Illustrative of just how confusing the debate was, however, this morning investors in would-be lithium miner Piedmont Lithium (NASDAQ: PLL) first sold off that stock en masse (down as much as 12.5%), then reversed course, erased all those losses, and bid Piedmont back up 7.2% through 10:40 a.m. EDT. A second lithium company working to begin production, Lithium Americas (NYSE: LAC), has enjoyed a more sustained upturn today, rising 12%.

Elsewhere in the renewable energy sector, solar stock SunPower (NASDAQ: SPWR) is enjoying an 8.2% rise.
