Im Jahre 1989 gründeten Herbert Frick, Schifffahrtskaufmann und Diplominformatiker, und Heiko Nocke, Diplominformatiker, das Unternehmen Softship mit dem Ziel, branchenspezifische Software für die Schifffahrt zu erstellen.
Wenn die Weltwirtschaft weiter wächst, dann profitieren auch die Reedereien und Werften. Softchip sollte diesen Trend für sich ebenfalls nutzen können.
